Half Hollow Hills High School East Alumni honor two fallen classmates
of 9/11 with Memorial Garden and Scholarship Fund
Members of the Class of 1983 from Half Hollow Hills High School East in Dix Hills, Long Island announce the creation of a Memorial Garden and Scholarship Fund to honor two of their own. Two esteemed members of the Class of 1983, who perished at the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001, will be honored with a memorial fund. The Tom Collins/Chris Panatier Memorial Foundation Inc; is a New York State Non-For-Profit Foundation (NYS 402/ id # 333-105-6681) to honor the memory and carry on the legacy of these two great men. This foundation will raise funds for a Memorial Garden in the center of the Campus of Half Hollow Hills High School East (50 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills NY). Additional monies will be raised for a Scholarship Fund. This ongoing foundation will pay for the creation and maintenance of both these projects in perpetuity. The Memorial Garden is slated for dedication in the spring of 2004. The Tom Collins/Chris Panatier 911 Memorial Scholarship will be presented each year to the graduating senior of the High School, who has demonstrated a sense of community service, scholarship and inclusion. Applications for the Scholarship Fund will be available November 1, 2003. Alumni from Half Hollow Hills High School East Class of 1983 will donate all work for this foundation. Thomas Joseph Collins was born on July 8, 1965 to Tom & Dottie Collins of Dix Hills New York. A strong leader, outstanding athlete with a keen sense of humor, Tom played Lacrosse for Ithaca University. Following college, Tom joined the firm of Sandler /OíNeill Partners where he held the position of Managing Director. Married only 2 years before the tragedy of September 11, he leaves behind a loving wife, Julia Collins of New York City and family and friends from around the world. Chris PanatierÝwas born on May 5, 1965 to Jim and Irene Panatier of Dix Hills, N.Y. Always quick to make people laugh and feel good, Chris was also an outstanding athlete. Chris attended Stony Brook University were he served as Captain of the Hockey Team. Upon finishing his degree in economics, Chris worked on Wall Street as a Trader, later working in the Tokyo office of Tullett & Tokyo. An employee of Cantor Fitzgerald since 1994, he held the position of Forward Yen Trader. Chris leaves behind two children Annie and Christopher and his wife and high school sweetheart, Carolyn. Many events are planned to raise funds for the Garden and Scholarship. The first of these events is a Golf Outing, scheduled for September 15, 2003. Other fundraisers in the preliminary stage of development include Broadway ticket raffles, a baseball outing, and fishing trips.
